Local Assistant and Interpreter / Translator

IBTCI seeks a Local Assistant and Interpreter to support the Final Performance Evaluation of “Business Reform and Competitiveness Project” BRCP Task Order. The purpose of this final evaluation is to understand to what extent the activity has been successful in creating sustainable employment/livelihoods in Tunisia and to provide input to determine the relative effectiveness of the activity’s approaches and inform new employment programming in Tunisia. 


The period of performance is expected to be 23 days (Oct 2 to Nov 1st) based primarily in Tunis, Tunisia.


This position is based in Tunis, Tunisia, and is only open to Tunisian nationals.


Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:  

  • Translate documentation from Arabic or French to English and vice versa.
  • Serve as interpreter during interviews.
  • Take notes of interactions between the Team Leader and individuals interviewed.
  • Assist the Team Leader in the preparation of field notes in English.

Provide logistics and coordination support to other staff for all trips to the field


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong coordination and leadership abilities.
  • Superior writing, English language, interpersonal, and analytical skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Native fluency in French and Arabic required.
  • Oral and written fluency in English required.
  • Proven experience working with diverse international teams in Tunisia.
  • Demonstrated experience in social science methods.

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in social science required.


Working Environment:  Work is typically performed in an office environment and in the field.


Physical Requirements:  This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.


Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.


Travel:  Local travel required.


Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in Tunisia.
