Overview: IBTCI is seeking Data Analysts / Researchers to assist conduct evaluations in the field of humanitarian assistance for UNFPA.  The evaluation will take into accounting UNFPA’s capacity to respond to humanitarian crises and use of the population data in humanitarian preparedness and response.  The period of performance is expected to be between 12-20 months during 2018.  This position is contingent upon award.


Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the design of the evaluation methodology.
  • Undertake in-depth document reviews.
  • Conduct desk research and analyses.
  • Prepare research reports.
  • Any other duties as assigned.



Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated analytical and writing expertise in humanitarian assistance evaluations.
  • Research experience of humanitarian policies, strategies and programs and of complex conflict situations, internal displacement, refugee programs and transition settings.
  • Familiarity with the Transformative Agenda (Leadership, Coordination, Accountability to Affected Populations, etc.).
  • Some knowledge of humanitarian law and principles, and experience with using human rights and gender analysis in evaluations.
  • Good understanding of UNFPA mandate and processes.
  • Good communication skills (written, spoken) in languages spoken in the region and countries covered, preferred.
  • Demonstrable regional expertise and knowledge of the regional issues, as relevant for the evaluation considered.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience in the field of data analysis and/or research.
  • Capable of organizing and analyzing large sets of data in support of the rest of the evaluation team.
  • Demonstrable analytical and writing/drafting skills in English.
  • Oral and written fluency in English required.
  • Selected candidates must provide work samples (including sample of a report drafted by the proposed team leader).

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or other related field required.

Working Environment: Work is typically performed in an office environment, with some time spent in the field.

Supervisory Responsibility:  This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.


Physical Requirements:  This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.

Travel:  Travel not required.
