Job Title: Mid to Senior Level Anthropologist/Sociologist

Overview: IBTCI is seeking a mid to senior level anthropologist and/or sociologist for the anticipated USAID/Uganda Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Contract. The five-year contract has the objective of achieving strengthened collaboration, learning and performance to enhance the impact and sustainability of USAID-supported contributions to Uganda’s development.  The contract will help USAID/Uganda strengthen its Collaborating, Learning and Adapting (CLA) and overall performance through a broad range of technical assistance, professional development, logistics, small grants and other staff support. This position is contingent on award. Ugandan nationals are strongly encouraged to apply.




Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:  

  • Serve as a ready source of economic advice and guidance to USAID/Uganda and IP staff;
  • Increase USAID/Uganda’s understanding of local context through rapid assessments, ongoing research, and continuous dialogue with Ugandan thought leaders;
  • Coordinate with other Contractor advisors to provide a comprehensive perspective to USAID/Uganda’s learning;
  • Draft SOWs for, help select, arrange meetings and site visits for, and deepen the work of visiting evaluation, analytic, assessment and activity design teams and individuals funded by USAID/Uganda;
  • Facilitate collaboration among Ugandan thought leaders;
  • Increase USAID/Uganda’s thought leadership through media, a public speakers series, etc., in purposeful ways to further open the enabling environment for the success of USAID/Uganda activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in substantive field research, monitoring and assessment in diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Experience with USAID or another donor;
  • Quality past performance references related to the position.


Working Environment: Corporate office environment as well as field work.


Education:  Master’s degree in economics, social sciences or other relevant field required.


Travel: The position is based in Kampala but may require travel to other areas of Uganda.
