Job Title: Mid to Senior Level Civil Engineer

Overview: IBTCI is seeking a mid to senior level civil engineer for the anticipated USAID/Uganda Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Contract. The five-year contract has the objective of achieving strengthened collaboration, learning and performance to enhance the impact and sustainability of USAID-supported contributions to Uganda’s development.  The contract will help USAID/Uganda strengthen its Collaborating, Learning and Adapting (CLA) and overall performance through a broad range of technical assistance, professional development, logistics, small grants and other staff support. This position is contingent on award. Ugandan nationals are strongly encouraged to apply.


Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:  

  • Serve as a ready source of advice, guidance and other support to improve the design and implementation of USAID/Uganda-funded construction activities;
  • Help ensure that USAID/Uganda is compliant with USG law and regulations, USAID policies, and Ugandan law, policies and regulations relevant to construction and environmental protection;
  • Help ensure the integrity of USAID/Uganda-funded construction projects;
  • Work with the social scientists and Contract collaboration staff, help USAID/Uganda ensure that construction activities benefit from sound social soundness analysis, community input into construction activities, and social sound implementation practices;
  • Draft SOWs for, help select, arrange meetings and site visits for, and deepen the work of visiting engineering teams and individuals funded by USAID/Uganda.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines.


Minimum Requirements:

  • At least seven (7) years of experience applying engineering expertise to construction projects in developing countries, preferably those funded by donors;
  • Experience with USAID or another donor;
  • Working knowledge of and experience with USAID construction and environmental; protection policies, regulations and procedures;
  • Quality past performance references related to the position.


Working Environment: Corporate office environment as well as field work.


Education:  Master’s degree in information technoloy, engineering or other related field required.


Travel: The position is based in Kampala but may require travel to other areas of Uganda.
